Press & Reviews

“Eliza Jane Schneider—Anna Deavere Smith crossed with Amy Sedaris—uncannily channels some 30 real-life Americans and their crazy-quilt stories in her tour-de-force one-woman show Freedom of Speech…Schneider doesn’t so much act as literally summon each person right before your eyes.”
-Sean Kennedy, New York Magazine
"VIRTUOSIC! Schneider’s everymen and everywomen are opinionated, touching, and amazingly diverse. A vivid oral history of American life. The most stunning moment of the show, when Schneider averts the attack of a vicious homeless man with an operatic aria, is pure poetry, a soaring metaphoric counterpoint to the play’s recurrent themes of human desperation and the redemptive powers of art"
- Kathleen Foley, L.A. Times
"If Lily Tomlin and Anna Deavere Smith were to merge their talents, the result might be something like Eliza Jane Schneider’s Freedom of Speech, a dramatic tour of America and also a tour de force… A wondrous harmony of American voices pouring from a one-woman choir."
-Adam Feldman, Time-Out New York President, New York Drama Critics’ Circle

“(Blue Girl,) A Stonehenge superheroine with one bare foot planted in rave culture, the other in goddess-worshiping antiquity – has risen to global prominence with her catchy world-pop tunes and wild shows, wowing ‘em from West Coast raves to the Cirque de Demain in Paris, where she performed in that city’s awesome Y2K festivities.”

-Tom Farrell, Penthouse, The Magazine of Sex, Politics, and Protest, October 2001

“The Burning Bushes, Blue Girl’s troupe of fellow goddesses, …calls to mind a smaller, more erotic Cirque de Soleil, one that’s gynocentric and proud of it.”

-Steve Lemons, Salon.com, “Blue Girl’s Blue Period,” July 5, 2000
